The calendar for the 2024 World Superbike Championship season World SBK will be modified and the Portuguese circuit of Estoril will host the 11th round of the season.
The 2024 WorldSBK campaign will now be marked by a visit to Circuito Estoril in October, following the cancellation of the Hungarian round, which had been scheduled for August. The Estoril round will take place from October 11-13, becoming the penultimate round of the 2024 campaign. The Portuguese venue will host WorldSBK as well as WorldSSP and WorldWCR, the categories originally scheduled for Balaton Park in August, but also the Yamaha R3 bLU cRU European SuperFinale.
As work on the Hungarian site was not completed on schedule (August 23-25), Balaton Park will no longer host WorldSBK events. The Estoril round will take place a week before the season finale at Circuito de Jerez – Angel Nieto, setting the stage for an action-packed end to the season.
Estoril hosted WorldSBK in 2022 and provided some exciting racing. In World Superbike, all three races went down to the final lap with incredible battles involving Jonathan Rhea, Alvaro Bautista et Toprak Razgatlioglu. In WorldSSP, Dominique Aegerter achieved a double victory, while in WorldSSP300, Samuel DiSora made an incredible comeback from 31st on the grid to claim a sensational but improbable victory. In 2020, it was in Portugal that Rea won an unprecedented sixth title.
