Jonathan Rea, newly arrived at Yamaha in World Superbike, and his boss on the ground Andrea Dosoli had high hopes for the Misano round, marking the resumption of the championship after a seven-week hiatus. Promising tests carried out on this circuit before the race had boosted his confidence. Unfortunately, expectations were not met, plunging Yamaha into suspense. His teammates, notably Locatelli, showed that the R1 had potential, but Rea failed to capitalize on it.
Andrea Dosoli of Yamaha Motor Europe did not hide its disappointment on GP One : " we arrived in Misano with high expectations for Jonathan Rea after the positive test last month. But the different track conditions didn't help us. The team failed to improve Jonathan's feelings, meaning he couldn't make any progress on the test »
He added : " this week-end, we clearly didn't give Jonathan what he was looking for. He qualified poorly, made worse by having his best lap erased » Dosoli has followed : " he got off to a good start in Race 1, regaining some positions in the first turn, but then suffered a serious crash at the end of the first lap in one of the fastest corners on the track »
Andrea Dosoli: “ as we saw with Gardner and Locatelli the potential of the R1 is there »
Andrea Dosoli highlighted : " fortunately he was not seriously injured, but the consequences of the accident did not help to improve his feelings for Sunday, so the race results were not what we expected »
He concluded by saying: “ This situation is difficult for all of us and naturally becomes frustrating, especially for Jonathan. We work hard to understand what he needs to progress and improve. As we saw with Gardner and Locatelli, the R1's potential is there. We just need to find a way for Jonathan to extract that potential, feel more comfortable and get closer to the top places, where we all deserve to be »
Misano, which was to be a turning point for Yamaha et Jonathan Rhea, turned into an additional challenge. The team will have to redouble its efforts to find the path to success and allow Sale to demonstrate all his talent on the R1.
