We definitely don't get bored in WSBK. Scott Redding thus pointed out that if Kawasaki was green with anger about the table of maximum engine speeds imposed on manufacturers, the Ducati official saw red when looking at a certain type of tire brought by the sole manufacturer Pirelli. There too, there would be an injustice. A question of weight, literally…

« It's quite unfair ". Therefore Scott Redding comments on a tire allocation situation in WSBK which seriously annoys the official Ducati. The problem is the tire Pirelli SCX which seems to give a definite advantage to drivers with a jockey's build. Gold Redding is more of the morphology of a middleweight boxer. Then he sends his uppercut… “ I don't know if some drivers don't have the balls to say something or if they don't care “, declared the 2020 world vice-champion.

What is it about ? Pirelli originally designed the tire SCX extension for the Superpole race over ten laps. Compared to the normal racing tire, the tire SC0, the SCX tire is softer and therefore allows for faster lap times. But this extra performance is only available for a limited time. Lighter riders put less stress on the tire and therefore can use the SCX tire in racing, while their heavier, taller counterparts put too much stress on the tire.

Scott Redding is one of those. “ Our biggest problem here is the SCX tire ", complains Redding. " I know a handful of riders will use the tire. Others want to use the tire, but it won't work ". He adds : " you have to think about the championship now. This could have disastrous consequences. I saw other riders using the tire. I also tested it. The question is whether you can survive the last five rounds. If so, that's great. If not, then you have a big problem ».

Redding: “It’s a game of chance and I think it’s quite unfair.”

Redding, adds on Motorsport-total : " It's a game of chance and I think it's quite unfair ". His teammate Michael Ruben Rinaldi is one of the riders who can use the SCX tire. Last year, Rinaldi took his first WSBK victory in Aragon. “ He knows he can use it like other light pilots. Some other drivers will also try it, like Jonathan Rea for example. Maybe I could try it too » said the Englishman.

« Lap times differ greatly. With the SCX tire you are approximately 0,5 to 0,8 seconds faster than with the SC0 tire. It's a huge difference », explains the pilot Ducati. “ So you only use the SC0 tire to finish the race in a safe position. But can you win with it? ». Redding has already raised the subject several times and wonders why some of his colleagues are not also on the offensive on the subject.
