Alvaro Bautista wanted to win at all costs: ten Superbike laps of knife battles, then in the final straight the Ducati silenced Sale et Soil.

The Spaniard lined up with a lot of pressure: the two falls a few hours earlier weighed like a rock. “I’m 38, it’s incredible,” he had condemned himself. The two usual opponents did everything to seize the opportunity and push the leader of the World Championship to the ropes. Jonathan Rhea in particular was superb, as long as the Kawasaki had fresh tires and the front end was supported. He entered the home stretch in the lead, but Baptist came out of the last chicane and the cavalry of the Panigale V4 R did the rest. It was as easy as sinking into butter, as if the Ducati had the DRS which was introduced in F1 to give us more fun with overtaking. The difference here is that Kawasaki and Yamaha do not have DRS.

Bautista, force 20 and different tires
For Alvarito, it is the twentieth pearl of this season, the 52nd of his career: the 55 Ducati victories of Carl Fogarty (he has 59 in total, including the 4 signed with Honda) are now at your fingertips. In a few Sundays, Alvaro Bautista could become world champion for the second time, but also the most successful Ducati rider of all time. The most interesting technical reason for this flamboyant Superpole race was the different choice of tires. Alvaro Bautista went with the SCX (standard) while Jonathan Rhea preferred the B800 at the rear, the evolution of the SCX. Soil, for its part, had opted for the SCQ joker, that is to say the qualifying tire, in the new C004 specification. A counterattack which, however, did not bear the expected fruits, namely victory.
