Jonathan Rea, Yamaha's new Superbike rider, had a tumultuous start to the season but eventually scored his first points of the 2024 season in the second main race in Barcelona, finishing in a respectable eighth place. This performance comes after a series of difficulties, including a burned clutch in the first race and problems in the sprint race.

Jonathan Rhea, during an interview with speedweek, expressed his frustration but also his hope for the future: “ this weekend has been trying. Between a burnt clutch and downshift problems, I had to fight for each position. But in the end we scored some points. It's a small step, but it's in the right direction ».

The six-time world champion acknowledged the challenges faced since the start of the season : " After a difficult start in Australia, we made progress during testing here in Barcelona. Unfortunately, these improvements have not yet translated into racing success. The Barcelona track does not work in favor of the R1, making overtaking difficult ».

Jonathan Rea: “ with Yamaha, I didn't expect the beginning to be so complicated »

Regarding his expectations for the rest of the season, Sale remains optimistic: we were slower than we anticipated, but I am convinced that we can improve. I didn't expect the beginning to be so complicated. However, I like motorcycles, and I am convinced that we can find the path to success ».

He also emphasizes the need for patience: “ we have to trust the process. I am convinced that we have the team and the skills necessary to progress. We are aiming higher than eighth place. We just need time to put it all together ».

Jonathan Rhea concludes with a note of humor: “maybe I brought bad luck somewhere, who knows? But I'm sure we'll overcome these obstacles. We just need time and patience ". A speech that could just as easily stick to the M1 project in MotoGP.
