WorldSBK championship leader Toprak Razgatlioglu will miss the Italian round in Cremona this weekend due to injuries sustained in his FP2 crash at Magny-Cours. The BMW rider has been diagnosed with a mild traumatic pneumothorax, which has prevented him from racing in France and now forces him to continue his recovery.
Toprak Razgatlioglu hoped to be able to return to Cremona, but after a new medical examination it was decided that he would not participate in the Italian event. Markus Reiterberger, former pilot BMW en World SBK, will replace him for this round.
Razgatlioglu, who had won 13 consecutive races before the accident, is now targeting a return for the Aragon round a week after Cremona. He said: " I wish I was back on the track in Cremona, but healing is taking longer than expectedMy goal is to return to Aragon to continue fighting for the championship. »
Bulega will still be able to take advantage of Toprak Razgatlioglu's absence to get closer to the title
Toprak's absence in Cremona could allow Nicholas Bulega, currently second in the championship, to reduce the 55 point gap which separates them. Open up has already taken advantage of the absence of Razgatlioglu in France to achieve a double on Sunday.
Reiterberger, who has already run for BMW in WorldSBK, will take the place of Razgatlioglu in Cremona. He expressed his support for Toprak and pledged to work to best prepare the bike for the Turkish rider's return. BMW Motorrad Motorsport, through its director Sven Blusch, reiterated that the health of Razgatlioglu is the top priority, and his return to competition will be assessed based on his recovery.
The return of Razgatlioglu à Aragon is crucial to his title chances, but for now he is focused on his recovery, while BMW continues to fight to stay in contention for the championship with the help of Reiterberger.
