Danilo Petrucci

Danilo Petrucci achieved a feat during the fourth round of the Superbike World Championship in Misano. The rider from Terni, who seriously injured his shoulder in a motocross fall a few weeks ago, did not know how long he could last in the race due to the intense pain. Here is what “Petrux” told the official Superbike website.

Petrux says: “ it's incredible. I didn't expect to be here. Sunday morning I woke up and I didn't know how I was going to face two races. In the Superpole Race, I didn't start well. I was afraid of falling. Many have passed me by. They were very aggressive with each other and some fell. After a few laps I found myself in ninth position and I thought 'oh perfect!'"

During Race 2, Petrucci experienced a real ordeal. “ I came out of the pits and braking into turn 4, I felt a lot of pain. On the grid, I said to my team 'maybe I'll do a few laps and see'. It was like having a dagger in the shoulder. I got off to a really good start. In the first turns I managed to keep up the pace even though I felt a lot of pain. I saw that Bassani was not that far behind, so I went with him trying to get a little ahead of those who were behind. He was in bad shape and I managed to overtake him but the last four rounds were a nightmare. »

The intense pain did not prevent Danilo Petrucci to deliver an extraordinary performance. “ When I crossed the finish line my shoulder hurt like hell. It's an incredible feeling considering my shoulder was hurting very bad but at the same time I also remembered the doctor who, after the injury, told me 'I don't know if you will be able to get back on a motorbike' and after two months I finished sixth. A mixed feeling, between pain and joy, which makes me move! »

Petrucci once again proved his resilience and dedication. His journey to Misano remains a testimony of courage and determination, and highlights the mental strength necessary to excel in a sport as demanding as Superbike.
