Andrea Iannone's return to the 2024 Superbike World Championship was marked by encouraging performances including podiums at Phillip Island and Barcelona. However, the weekend at Donington Park was particularly difficult for the Italian driver, who had to abandon the second race due to severe pain in his forearm. Iannone now finds himself under pressure in the general classification.
During the second training session, Iannone fell, which affected his performance in Superpole. His best time was canceled due to a yellow flag, relegating him to 19th place on the starting grid. “ Everything was new to me, even though I had ridden the route many years ago, because the bike is completely different from the last time, " has explained Iannone, referring to the 125cc GP of 2009.
In the first race and the Superpole, Iannone finished 11th and 10th respectively. Unfortunately, he had to abandon the second race due to pain in his right forearm. “ The second race was very difficult. From the start, I felt a pain in my right forearm, which ended up blocking me and forcing me to give up. I no longer had the strength in my hands and fingers to operate the brake lever, " did he declare.
Andrea Iannone: “ I know we didn't reach our goal, but I am confident and sure that we will be competitive again in Most »
Andrea Iannone attributed his poor performance to a lack of experience on the circuit Donington Park and the absence of comparative data from previous years. “ Unlike other drivers, I don't have any data from last year that I could compare with today,” he explained. He also mentioned the difficulties with adjustment and feel with the bike: “ we certainly didn't have not the best settings or ideal sensations for the motorcycle."
Despite this difficult weekend, Andrea Iannone remains optimistic for the next races in the Czech Republic. “ I know we didn't reach our goal, but I am confident and sure that we will be competitive again in Most,” he said.
Iannone currently occupies sixth place in the general classification with 88 points, but he is only three points ahead of his distinguished colleague Danilo Petrucci. Solid results this weekend at Must will be essential to maintain its position.
The weekend at Donington Park was a reminder of the challenges facing Andrea Iannone is confronted in his return to WSBK. However, with renewed determination and an optimistic approach, he hopes to bounce back and regain his competitiveness at Most.
