While the morning races took place under the threat of thick clouds, rain appeared in the middle of the day, flooding the circuit. However, the Imola track is dangerous when it rains because some clearances are much too short and the distance too short between the outer edge of the track and the wall, even protected by air fences, with very slippery grassy surfaces, especially when they are damp.

Departure was delayed by more than an hour. Many wanted to ride because some wanted to score big points, like Johnny Rea. Others were less enthusiastic, for the opposite reason, like Álvaro Bautista. Finally some, far behind in the dry, ardently wanted to ride in the wet because it was their only chance to achieve a good result, like Sandro Cortese. The majority did not want to ride.

At 15:20 p.m., Race Direction decided to cancel the third Superbike race and the Supersport 300 race.

The next event will take place on June 9 in Jerez.
