While his colleagues from Kawasaki and Ducati were testing their Superbikes in the South, Eugene Laverty was carefully testing his BMW S 1000 RR on the Lausitz circuit. The EuroSpeedway (or Lausitzring) is not on the program for this year's Superbike World Championship, but the trip to Misano was too complicated due to restrictions for the German manufacturer's team based in England.

The SMR team (Shaun Muir Racing) was thus able to take advantage of the relative tranquility of Eastern Germany to film a lap on an on-board camera with the Irish driver.

Eugene Laverty had a positive impression of the BMW S1000RR, calling it a “raw piece” that he believes has the potential to win races “sooner or later”.

“When I first rode the bike in November, it was very raw. I was surprised at how crude she was in terms of details. The progress made thereafter was sensational. This is a project I want to be involved in for the long term and BMW is going to win races very soon. »

According to BMW Motorrad WorldSBK team boss Shaun Muir, “Eugène was very clear from the first time he got on the bike that we needed to work on electronics for him to find something he was comfortable with. We were making progress every time he got on the bike, every session, every test. »

“Tom (Sykes) and Eugene work very well together. There is a lot of sharing of data and information, even if their driving styles are different. One aspect that we really like is the benefits that Eugene has found with electronic equipment that has benefited Tom in certain areas. There was a good transfer of information, which is positive for the team. »
