So teammate of Johann zarco at Tech 3, Folger achieved an extraordinary German Grand Prix in 2017, being the only driver to stand up to Marc Márquez. Showing incredible talent, Jonas achieved the race of his life at home in front of his fans, which all German enthusiasts will remember for a long time. Then water passed under the bridge and Folger left full-time competition and its pressure to devote himself to development.

Jonas has competed in 156 Grands Prix, including 53 in 125cc, 3 in Moto31, 3 in Moto59 and 2 in MotoGP. He won 13 victory in 1, 125 in Moto1 and 3 in Moto3. His only MotoGP podium came at the German Grand Prix in 2, when, behind Márquez, he preceded Dani Pedrosa, Maverick Viñales and Valentino Rossi.

Born August 10, 1993 in Mühldorf, is currently a development rider for Yamaha in Superbike. He engages in this activity during test sessions, but also by participating in the IDM German Superbike Championship for Team MGM Racing. Two wildcard races are theoretically planned this year in Barcelona and Misano.

This Tuesday, the team of Jürgen Röder and Michael Galinski exclusively rented the Motorsport Arena in Oschersleben. Three sidecars with Tim Reeves/Kevin Rousseau (GB/F), Bennie Streuer/ Ilse de Haas (NL) and Josef Sattler/Jeroen Remmé (D/NL) were on site, as well as the three Superbike riders Jonas Folger, Marc Moser and Maximilian Weihe. The Netherlands sent Milan Merckelbagh with an R6 and Tim Holtz as the IDM Superstock 600 rider. Also present was Moto2 World Championship rider Marcel Schrötter.

Folger was satisfied: “I think it’s a good new start for me and at the same time an interesting change of scenery,” he told Esther Babel of Speedweek. com, after signing his contract with Team Bonovo Action by MGM Racing.

“I want to start from scratch, regain confidence, gain good experience again and take a new path which should lead me to the Superbike World Championship in the long term. »

For Michael Galinski, “ It was really good. It was the first time we were on the track together as a team. I've been to Cartagena before with the sidecars, but with all the solo drivers it was the first time. »

“We worked a lot with electronics ", explained Galinski. “Before the coronavirus crisis, we took part in a Yamaha training course where we learned about new electronic devices. The guys were on the track all day. Half an hour for the sidecars, then half an hour for the solos, always alternating. Folger and Schrötter did not miss a single lap. I'm sure they will all sleep well tonight! »
