Kenan Sofuoglu

Kenan Sofuoglu, Toprak Razgatlioglu's manager and mentor, was over the moon after his protégé's resounding victory in the second race at Barcelona, a historically tricky circuit for Toprak. This performance is all the more significant as it comes after his transfer from Yamaha to BMW, a decision which had raised many questions.

« We are incredibly happy with what Toprak has achieved in Barcelona" , told Kenan Sofuoglu à GP One. " When we chose BMW, we were convinced that the bike was in no way inferior to the Yamaha, and the facts have proven us right. The real question was whether Toprak would be able to stand up to Bautista and Ducati. These first races demonstrated his speed, his strength, and above all his intelligence in taking advantage of each machine."

This success in Barcelona dispels many doubts and relieves the pressure felt. “ Many thought our decision was a mistake, but today Toprak is even faster than in 2023. He still has to get used to the bike in certain aspects, but I'm sure he will be even more formidable in the next races, especially since Phillip Island and Barcelona are quite atypical circuits."

Kenan Sofuoglu: “ from the tests I started to believe in our ability to win and claim the title »

When asked if this Toprak surprised him, Sofuoglu answers : " his victory came sooner than we anticipated. From the tests he showed that he could be competitive, and that's when I started to believe in our ability to win and challenge for the title. Toprak may not be the fastest on a lap, but in racing, he is among the best."

Regarding the influence of Sofuoglu on this victory, he explains: “ it is crucial to understand the mental aspect of each pilot. Before the race I told him: 'No driver here can beat you, believe it!' And he did it. My method may be strict, but it is effective. Choosing the right words is essential to avoid breaking a driver."

As for the prospect of Toprak moving to MotoGP, Kenan Sofuoglu is clear : " my goal has always been to help him become a Superbike champion, not a MotoGP champion. Our current challenge is with BMW in SBK. If Toprak succeeds with BMW, he could then consider MotoGP. Becoming a champion opens new doors. » And a new vocation at BMW ?
