Loris Baz

In Indonesia, during the second round of the WSBK championship, Loris Baz was hit by Alex Lowes, an impact which caused serious injuries to his leg and ankle. Since then, the Bonovo BMW rider has been working hard to recover all his means and get back to his M1000RR as soon as possible. But it's not that simple and, for the moment, the Assen meeting at the end of this month remains on the dotted line. On the official website of the category reserved for motorcycles from the series, he makes an edifying point of sincerity and courage about his condition.

Before going into details, we will recall that the French pilot suffered fractures in the right leg and ankle. Giving an update on his ankle, Loris Baz said : " My ankle is recovering well. She gets better every day. I am happy. Last week I was cleared to start putting weight on the foot again and start physio. This week I was allowed to cycle again. Everything is getting better. I do a little physiotherapy and then I walk a lot at home. I have everything to improve as much as possible. I just need to get my foot strength and mobility back. For the moment, the ankle is still a little blocked. I walk and try to put some strength back into the upper leg to stabilize the knee because the knee is the most painful right now, and the most disturbing is the knee more than the ankle ».

« There's not much you can do with the knee » he regrets wsbk.com. " The ligament is broken but there is no surgery to do, it just needs time to heal on its own. If you have muscle, the knee will be more stable and less painful. Because I wasn't allowed to move for three weeks, I lost all the muscles in my leg, so my knee got worse. I am now trying to recover the leg muscle. It's not really easy. The ankle is still sore and the knee is sore so, of course, since Monday I'm allowed to ride my bike again, and I have some exercises to help. This is in the right direction. Everyone is happy and quite surprised at how well it heals. The first time I went to the physio, he couldn't believe it was only two weeks after the operation! Friday will be four weeks. It's still a little early but the goal is to be at Assen ».

Loris Baz: “ I'm pretty sure I'll be in Assen, but we have to make the final decision with the surgeon on April 14 »

Loris Baz will have to pass medical checks in order to race at Assen, after being declared unfit to race Mandalika following his injuries, but, before that, he described the process he will follow with his surgeon whom he will meet on 14th April. The meeting with the surgeon is to check that everything is healing as expected with the ligaments in his ankle and knee following the operation he had shortly after the accident.

Le BMW driver said : " For now, I'm keeping the same process. I train, do physio and try to reduce the hematoma. It's still a little swollen but that's normal. It will be the same process until the Dutch Round. Next Friday, the 14th, I will see the surgeon again and do an x-ray and that's when we will decide for Assen. Right now, given my current state of mind, I'm pretty sure I'll be in Assen, but we have to make the final decision with the surgeon on the 14th. It's mostly the ankle. There is nothing to worry about as much with the knee. The knee is just painful and bothersome but nothing serious can happen. The foot was a very bad operation. All the ligaments were gone, and they had to put the ligaments back into the bone. We must be sure. It's 99% sure it heals well because I wouldn't walk if it didn't heal. We need an x-ray and a check-up to be sure everything is ok to race in Assen ».

What is certain is that morale is good: “ we must try in every way to keep our spirits up. I'm not going to complain and cry for hours. There's no point and the best thing is to have fun. You have to try to make the bad moment a little better ". And he ends: “ I know the process very well and I think my body knows the process, this is also why I think pilots recover faster than average people ».
