Lucas Mahias

It is not because Lucas Mahias was not chosen to succeed Tom Sykes on the Kawasaki ZX-10R that relations with the Puccetti team, which preferred Tito Rabat, are strained. The proof with this announcement returning the former Supersport world champion on the ZX-6R of Can Öncü, still convalescing, to face this weekend's Misano meeting in WSS.

While Can Öncü of Kawasaki Puccetti Racing continues to recover from a recent arm injury, the former world champion for the Italian team, Lucas Mahias, will compete for these colors in what is their real home round on the world circuit of Misano, Marco Simoncelli. It will be recalled that Dog Öncü was particularly unfortunate to be injured at the Assen round in late April, shortly after his WorldSSP victory at Mandalika in March.

Misano will be the second WorldSSP 2023 round in which Mahias will take part after returning to Puccetti and competing for the team at the last Catalunya event. In Misano, Mahias will once again ride an updated WorldSSP version of the Ninja ZX-6R with which he won four WorldSSP races during the 2019 and 2020 seasons, before moving up to the category World SBK with the Puccetti team for two seasons.

Lucas Mahias: “ I know it’s the team’s home date. »

With little time to prepare for his return to WorldSSP in Catalonia, Lucas achieved a 16th and then a 13th place last time out. The driver and the team will therefore hope to obtain even better results in Misano.

Lucas Mahias said : " I'm really happy to continue with Manuel Puccetti's team, but I hope Can comes back as soon as possible. I know it's the team's home fixture so I will do everything I can to get the best possible results in front of our sponsors and supporters. We will continue the work that we started in Barcelona and we will try to exploit the full potential of the bike » ends the tricolor.
