The SBK Commission, composed of Messrs Gregorio Lavilla (Dorna, President), Franck Vayssié (FIM) and Takanao Tsubouchi (MSMA), decided to modify the Technical Regulations of the 2019 FIM Superbike and Supersport World Championships during the electronic meetings held on 25 March 2019.

The main changes concerned the rules for the 300 FIM Supersport 2019 World Championship.

The goal of the balancing solution was not to reduce all machines to the slowest performance level but to work towards a balance around the average performance motorcycles.

The KTM RC390R has been chosen as the benchmark machine for 2019. Yamaha has worked tirelessly throughout the winter to produce a high quality engine kit that raises the performance of its 3cc YZF-R320 to the same level as that of the KTM.

The Kawasaki Ninja 400 will be equipped with an intake flange to reduce the power of the machine by 399cc. The combined rider/machine weights will be slightly different to account for the very different torque levels of the machines.

The World Supersport 300 category is the perfect place to discover new talent and, thanks to the cooperation and understanding of the manufacturers in conjunction with the FIM and Dorna, it is a category where the sheer performance of the machines is not is not the primary objective.
