WSBK Alvaro Bautista

It has been in the air for a while and now the news is official in WSBK. The category reserved for motorcycles from the series was to end its current season in Argentina but the meeting has just been officially canceled, thus confirming the difficulty of organizing a meeting in distant lands with a complex political and economic situation. However, the manufacturers involved want a calendar with Japan and the United States in particular.

This is news that will undoubtedly be commented on a little more this weekend at Must, in the Czech Republic, where the World Superbike will bring us a new episode of its season. In the meantime, here is the official press release canceling the trip to Argentina: “ the Argentinian round of the 2023 MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship, which was scheduled to take place from October 13 to 15 on the Circuito San Juan Villicum, was canceled. This decision is due to the intense electoral calendar that the country is facing, which has led to a complex situation affecting the daily lives of people, provinces and businesses ».

« Given the proximity of the upcoming national and provincial elections, Dorna WSBK Organization (DWO), Grupo OSD and the Government of San Juan have chosen to suspend the event at the San Juan Villicum circuit ».

« The FIM and Dorna WSBK Organization will announce soon a new site which will host the last round of the 2023 season of the MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship ". This “new site” would be Jerez.

« Japanese manufacturers would definitely be very happy if we organized a WSBK event in Japan »

Furthermore, the manufacturers and teams have some wishes for the future regarding the sites. So, BMW, officially present since 2019, would like to ride in front of the local supporters. Oschersleben was in talks for 2020, but was pulled from the calendar due to the pandemic. The Bavarians would like to show themselves to the United States. We will remember that Laguna Seca was part of the WSBK calendar until 2019.

On their side, Honda, Yamaha et Kawasaki would not shy away from a meeting in Japan: “ Japanese manufacturers would certainly be very happy if we organized an event in Japan. But it is difficult to find a promoter and a suitable track. It is not an easy task for Dorna to find new promoters », commented on the subject Guim Roda, team manager of Kawasaki, in an interview with Motorsport-Total.com. It's definitely not easy to organize a world championship.
