After an “annus horribilis”, the Briton, born on August 4, 1986 in Ashford in Kent, will finally leave the Moriwaki Althea Honda Team where, for him, catastrophic results followed injuries. Goodbye to the big salary of an official Honda rider, but hello to a competitive motorcycle with the Ducati Panigale V4 R from the Barni satellite team, one of the most competent on the grid.

Camier (“The other Leon”) rode in the World Championship from 2009 as a wildcard, the year he won the BSB title, on Yamaha, then he became the teammate of Max Biaggi at Aprilia in 2010 and 2011. The Pirate won the world title, the Englishman not a single race.

He then raced for the Fixi Crescent Suzuki team, whose Paul Denning had taken over the factory GSX-Rs previously entrusted to Francis Batta. This was followed by a half-season in 2014 on an S 1000 RR from the BMW Motorrad Italia SBK team, followed by a replacement at Laguna Seca for MV Agusta Reparto Corse on an MV Agusta F4 RR in 2014. He drove for MV Agusta for the next three years , from 2015 to 2017, before doing the 2018 season with the Red Bull Honda World Superbike Team on a Honda CBR1000RR Ten Kate.

This year, Camier rides for the official Honda team and leads Losail in 17th position, ahead of his teammates Alessandro Delbianco in 18th and Ryuichi Kiyonari 20th. His best result so far was seventh place in Race 1 at Magny-Cours. In 221 World Superbike races, he has 0 victories, 9 podiums and 0 pole positions.

Last year, the Barni Racing Team and its Ducati Panigale R helped Jordi Torres to obtain tenth place in the Championship. This year, Michael Ruben Rinaldi is thirteenth.

Camier will discover his new machine during the test which will take place at MotorLand Aragón on November 13 and 14.

According to Leon Camier, “I’m really looking forward to this new challenge. I will use all my experience and my qualities as a developer to achieve excellent results for Marco and his team. »

“They have a close relationship with the factory, and it's a very passionate, engineering and results-oriented group, I believe we will work well together. »

“That said, my goal is firstly to finish the season in the best possible way in Qatar with my current team. »

For the Team Manager of the Barni Racing team, Marco Barnabò : “I am very proud to have managed to reach an agreement with Leon, he has shown great appreciation for our team and he is very motivated to join us. »

“We are sure that together we can achieve good results. Like every year, we will work hard and my team will give their all. »

“I would also like to thank them for everything they have managed to do regarding the development of the motorcycle. I also want to thank our sponsors who have supported us so far and who will be by our side in 2020.”
