The whimsical English rider, now a Ducati official in the World Championship Superbike replacingÁvaro Bautista, is currently enjoying his title of winner of the British Superbike Championship in California, where he trains in the sun.

He had planned this trip with his girlfriend for a long time, well before the start of the pandemic. The weather is in fact milder at this time of year on the west coast of the United States than in Andorra where he lives.

But the departure was delayed because the conditions were no longer the same for traveling and Scott therefore had to be available quickly to be able to reach the Californian beaches.

“I’m in California, but it rains there sometimes,” said Redding in a conversation with --Neil Hodgson. “As lockdown approached, I had a flight four days later than I initially wanted. Then it became more and more concrete and I took the next possible flight the next day. »

“I quickly threw my things in the suitcase and left because it was clear that no flights would be possible during the lockdown. Nobody does anything here either, but I can do my training there in good weather with my girlfriend. »

“I'm relaxed and I see this as a sort of summer break, although no one knows when normal life will continue. »

“What I miss the most is the pressure to perform. I feel like a retired pilot right now. At least I think that's how I'll feel then (laugh). »

“You have less obligation to do anything. You're not under that pressure to prepare for the next day. You don't have to do this or that. Plus, I miss the adrenaline that comes during races. »

“At Phillip Island, I only got a small taste of what awaited me. I was looking forward to the next races, then came confinement. »

“I try to stay motivated. At first I let it go for a few days, but I realized I didn't know when it was going to start again and I had to be ready. »
