Scott Redding

For Scott Redding, there couldn't have been a worse start to the season in WSBK. The Englishman certainly did not expect to come and compete with his old Ducati which he sees winning in the hands of his replacement Alvaro Bautista, leading the championship after two meetings in Aragon and Assen. But seeing that he suffers so much on the handlebars of an M 1000 RR very different from what he knew at the same time as he is dominated by the sister machine of the satellite team Bonovo, well led by Loris Baz, does not is not the type to put him in a good mood. He warns: this should not continue and puts his team in the hot seat, without questioning himself...

Scott Redding isn't the type to shy away from things when things start to go wrong. We remember that in MotoGP, he lost all his chances of remaining in the paddock as a test rider by openly criticizing Aprilia's RS-GP, which was then still far from what it is now. At Ducati he did his job, but failed to challenge for the title. Which led to having to try a new challenge with BMW. Who starts off badly...

The Englishman has to get used to a completely different bike. Furthermore, the M 1000 RR is not yet in the top positions and there is a lot of work to be done. The first weekend at Aragon was a complete disaster, but things turned out better at Assen. He finished ninth in Race 1 and sixth in Race 2. The result of the second race gave the driver confidence for the future. He finally had good feelings and hopes to progress in the next rounds of the Superbike calendar.

However, to make his case worse, he is not the best driver BMW in the ranking, given that he has Loris Baz nine points ahead of him. But the championship is long and its objective is to get closer to the best. The Briton wants to show that he can achieve excellent results if he is put in the right technical conditions. In an interview given to speedweek, he was clear about his demands and the apprehension of his situation for which he says he bears no personal responsibility: “ I don't care what people say, I have already shown that I can win races and make podiums. I'm not the problem. I'm trying to adapt to the bike and the team has to work to give me what I ask for ».

Scott Redding: “ I'm not the problem«

Scott Redding has no doubts about his worth, having fought for the Superbike title in recent years: “ the bike is good for positions sixth to eighth. It doesn't allow me to win, even if I have the potential to do so ". Although he places the blame on the bike and the team, Redding is confident for the future: “ I believe in the project and BMW has the resources to realize it. We have to improve and that takes time. We must take big steps and they must be the right ones ».

The old pilot Ducati is working hard to succeed with the German brand, which has never won the WorldSBK title. She only came close with Marco Melandri in 2012. Scott dreams of giving the Munich house its first triumph, but in 2022 this is unlikely to happen. Maybe in 2023 if the driver and team take the right growth path this season and their relationship survives until then...
