Scott Redding, the troublemaker who like everyone else likes to enjoy life and good food, spoke about a painful episode in his life, the time when he raced in MotoGP, where he wandered between hope And despair..
The 27-year-old Briton spoke about his MotoGP period which ran from 2014 to 2018. He hung out at Honda for two years (Go&Fun Honda Gresini then in 2014 Estrella Galicia 0,0 Marc VDS in 2015), at Ducati for two years (Octo Pramac Racing) then at Aprilia Racing Gresini in 2018. What we must remember from his 4 years of MotoGP is that the young man came out physically drained, morally humiliated, the latter, proud as a rooster, could not bear to finish at the back of the peloton on machines which for him were not at all competitive. At the time, so disgusted with this sport took hold of him, he almost gave up...even though a champion was sleeping inside him...
“What doesn’t kill us makes us stronger” they say and this adage is true for Scott Redding during the 2019 season. With its potential and its morale of steel, the team Be Wiser PBM Ducati bet on the handsome stallion by entering him in the British Superbike Championship (BSB). A championship where the youngest winner of all time (at only 15 years and 170 days) pulled off everything, winning the famous sesame at the end of the season. A culmination at last for someone who was ready to give up everything...
« In 2018 my career was more or less over. I was overwhelmed, I didn't want to run anymore. I was 25 years old and I said to myself “I’m done with this sport”. It didn't bring me anything positive in my life. I was unhappy and I couldn't achieve anything. I was going to try to do something else, that was my way of seeing things” Scott explains.
« I was in full burnout because there was no light at the end of the tunnel. There was no future. I was struggling, I was in pain, I really hated it. And that made me a little tired. I had just fought for a Moto2 world title, which I lost due to injury. It hurt me, but I had a new challenge to go to MotoGP and trying to be world champion was my goal, that's what I thought I could do. But I just felt like I was in the wrong place, wrong time from then on. Everywhere I went, it wasn't the right time for me. It exhausted me psychologically and physically. Deep down I knew there was something better to accomplish but that at the moment t, I could not obtain it. There is so much pressure in MotoGP, millions of people around the world are watching you. For me, finishing 15th, 16th, 17th is humiliating. Some riders will say they are very happy with that, they are in MotoGP. This doesn't suit me » confides the 2019 BSB world champion.
In 2019, the awakening of the dragon took place. Redding tasked his manager with finding him a motorcycle category for 2019, which led to his career being successfully relaunched in BSB. “ After this disinheritance, I was done. But then I was like, “actually, let’s try this.” I will try to have a good bike, in a good team. Because I know that I am a good driver with potential. When I decided that I was going to continue racing, I said to my manager: “find me a bike and a team that can win”. I ended up racing in the British Superbike Championship and that kind of boost moved me again. I had the fire to win again » comments the driver from Quedgeley.
And the flame will burn again Scott Redding in 2020, because his enthusiasm and his title thus acquired, caught the eye of the Reds of Ducati (Aruba.it) who made him sign a contract in WorldSBK instead ofAlvaro Baustista. A year 2020 in World SBK where we will undoubtedly witness, thanks to the sulphurous British, an orgy of victories for Ducati. Or not…
