Just like yesterday, the Turkish rider set the best time in the first session of the day in Aragón, while the Superpole is fast approaching and promises a great battle on track for the opening of the Superbike season.

After a first studious evening spent analyzing the data collected during the first two free practice sessions of the weekend, the Superbike riders were able to venture onto the track again from 9 a.m. with more refined settings.

Another 30 minutes of driving to be ready for the first Superpole of the season, which will take place a little later in the morning, around 11:10 a.m. To also better understand the track conditions and in particular the grip, changing yesterday between the two FP1 and EL2, but which should improve from today until the end of the round due to the drop in temperatures.

A drop in the mercury – it was 14 degrees in the air at the start of the session, 20 on the track – accompanied by a layer of cloud hiding the sun, which should however not fail to break through and dissipate the stratus clouds during the day .

And proof that the track conditions were conducive to chronometric progress, Jonathan Rea, fifth yesterday in combined times, immediately lowered its reference by half a second to go to the top of the timesheet, close to the 1'49 zone which only accepted one driver yesterday: Toprak Razgatlioglu.

The times fall straight away

The defending champion was followed in his wheel at the start of the session by Scott Redding, in constant progress after a first discreet session on Friday. The former MotoGP rider in fact closed on the Northern Irishman to just 15 thousandths of a second during the first minutes, the two men riding together in what perhaps foreshadowed their duel on the track during Race 1 this afternoon. Alvaro Bautista also kept pace, the leading trio being within 35 thousandths of a second during the first half of the session.

alex lowes subsequently reshuffled the cards by taking the lead by only eight thousandths ahead of Rea, his teammate at Kawasaki. The Englishman then hit the nail on the head by initially improving, going below the 1'50 mark, before the fastest man of the first day, Razgatlioglu, dislodged him from first place by signing a magnificent 1'49.695, the fastest lap of the weekend so far.

Redding making clear progress

Scott Redding secured second place, falling just one thousandth of a second off the best time! The two Kawasaki riders follow, Lowes ahead of Rea, Bautista finishing the session in fifth position. You then have to go down to the seventh row to find Chaz Davies, author of the best time yesterday afternoon during EL2.

The best is to be noted among the French, and particularly among Lucas Mahias, the Montois who took 13th place at the end of the session, while Christophe Ponsson must be satisfied with 20th place.

The first three free practice sessions of the season now completed, the serious things will now begin with the first Superpole of the year, to follow in just over an hour on the Motorland Aragón circuit.
