WSBK Superbike Assen FP1: Toprak Razgatliogu already under the record

Immediately ready to go, Toprak Razgatlioğlu is already under the official record in Assen. Iker Lecuona makes progress on the Honda, with Ducati's Bautista and Rinaldi in ambush. Jonathan Rea stays behind.

Soil Razgatlioğlu was the fastest rider in the first practice session of the second Superbike round in Assen. The Turkish Yamaha rider completed his lap in 1'34″466, a tenth under the official track record signed in 2019 by Álvaro Bautista with Ducati, 1'34″564. In the session which took place under beautiful sunshine and a more than acceptable temperature (14°C in the air) Toprak put the Honda of Iker Lecuona and the Ducati of Bautista and Michael Rinaldi on line. Only fifth is Jonathan Rea, who has won fifteen times here.

 

Fear for Eugene Laverty
The Irishman lost control of his Bonovo BMW entering Turn 15, the fast left-hander before the final chicane. It was a scary highside: Eugene Laverty slipped, getting up without apparent damage, but risking being crushed by the motorcycle, which bounced several times very close to him, almost destroying itself. Danger avoided, but what risk...

Michael van der Mark gritting his teeth
Michael van der Mark also spun in FP1, making his return to the works BMW after missing the opening round at Aragón due to a fracture (in four places…) of his right leg sustained during a mountain bike workout. Before FP2, which will begin at 15:00 p.m., he will be re-evaluated by the circuit doctors to decide whether he is fit to participate in the full weekend in front of his home crowd.

 

 

On the Kawasaki Pedercini, we find Leon Haslam in place of Loris Cresson, who was sidelined by the Mantua team following mutual accusations of broken financial commitments.
