During the last races, Axel Bassani failed to achieve important results but he can only smile thinking about 2024. His goal was to compete for a factory team and in recent days he signed for Kawasaki KRT. In the meantime he must defend fifth place in the world rankings and win the independent title with Motocorsa.
« I would consider a fifth place in the World Superbike championship a good deal – he told Corriere delle Alpi – The priority is to quickly find the right sensations with the bike, in order to complete the journey with Motocorsa with this objective. For the moment, apart from signing with Kawasaki, unfortunately things are not going well. After the crash during testing in France, where we destroyed the bike, I was no longer able to run at exactly the same pace as before ».
« However, the hope is to win the Independent World Championship, both among the drivers and as a team, in order to achieve the goal set at the start of the year. There are these 39 points to defend against Danilo Petrucci at the Independent Individual World Championship, just as I really want to keep fifth place in the general classification. There, Rinaldi came close to just 11 points ».
For Axel Bassani, moving from Motocorsa to KRT is like leaving middle school for high school
On his green future, he specifies: “ I personally led the dialogue with the KRT with my manager Alberto Vergani. The negotiation was not short-lived, but we both wanted a happy conclusion, which it did. Moreover, I replace Jonathan Rea in a house that I have always admired. I have always seen them as strong, professional and competitive. It will be a pleasure to run with them ».

I don't see this as a problem, on the contrary in sport you have to question yourself and never relax. When you are satisfied with your achievements, it's over. I could have stayed at Motocorsa, to the joy of Lorenzo Mauri and the whole team. But it's a bit like at school: when, in middle school, you don't want to go to high school, because the jump towards adults is scary. Instead, you have to do it and then you discover that you like it ».
Then he ends with this regret: “ at Ducati they certainly never took me into consideration and I'm a little sorry for that, but to be honest, I consider this as additional motivation ».
