It's a day of announcements regarding the World Superbike rider market. After the official transfer of Remy Gardner in the GRT Yamaha team, there is also that of the passage of Garrett gerloff in the Bonovo Action BMW team. This is not a surprise, the two operations had been known for days and all that remained was to make them official. The one concerning the American pilot had been known for weeks. After three years within the team of Mirko Giansanti and Filippo Conti, he will have a change of scenery and hopes to become a reference for BMW while running for a satellite structure.

We can say that gerloff did not meet expectations. In 2020 he had a good debut in World Superbike and the following year he was expected to make a quality jump. But that didn't happen. He didn't start off badly but, after dropping Toprak Razgatlioglu at Assen and being reprimanded by Yamaha, his growth slowed a bit.

Even the 2022 championship does not bring great joy to the Texan driver, who had his best weekend at Magny-Cours: fifth in Race 1, then eighth in the following two rounds. Something has gone wrong and a change of environment could be the right solution to relaunch your career by World SBK.

Gerloff will try to find his second wind at BMW

Having defined its future, gerloff could run the next races on the calendar with more lightness and perhaps succeed in bringing out the talent that he has only shown in flashes in recent years. The team GRT Yamaha expects him to conclude his experience with the team positively before starting the new path on the BMW M 1000 RR of the Bonovo Action team, where he will replace Eugene Laverty and will be the teammate of Loris Baz.

Speaking about the deal, BMW Motorrad Motorsport director, Marc Bongers, welcomed gerloff in the family BMW : " Hello, and welcome to the BMW Motorrad Motorsport family, Garrett Gerloff. We have always followed his development in WorldSBK in recent years. He showed from the start that he is fast and talented. He has now matured as a driver. We are excited to have Garrett on board starting next season. We are confident that Garrett will fit very well into our BMW Motorrad factory rider team and will further strengthen our project. He will help the Bonovo Action BMW Racing Team take the next step towards the top next season ».
