The 10th round of the 2024 MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship season will feature racing at the Cremona circuit for the first time on the calendar across three categories: WorldSBK, WorldSSP and the FIM Women's Motorcycling World Championship.

A five-year contract has been signed between the Lombardy circuit and Dorna WSBK Organization (DWO), which guarantees its participation in the calendar from 2024 to 2028. It was designed by Studio Dromo by Jarno Zaffelli, who is renowned for his work on large-scale circuits. Located just south of Milan, the Cremona circuit is at the moment more of a regional structure than an international circuit, and this is why its arrival on the calendar has caused some skepticism among Italian drivers who know it.

The owners of the Cremona circuit, Roberto and Manuel Mazzucato, as well as the general manager Alessandro Canevarolo, therefore traveled to Jerez last weekend to answer questions and present their modernization plan which, initially, was not planned only for 2026 and 2027. The first contact with Dorna took place in Portimao in 2022, then this year in Most, Dorna asked the owners to accelerate the movement.

To undergo the approval process, several significant modifications and improvements will be implemented, including:

– Improvement of the track layout: modifications to the track layout, with particular attention paid to turns 11, 12 and 13.
– High-quality resurfacing: refurbishment of certain sections of the track using quality materials to improve its condition.
– Extension of the length of the track: extension of the length of the track by approximately 90 meters to enrich the dynamics of the races.
– Expansion of spectator facilities: construction of new stands and public spaces to accommodate the growing number of WorldSBK spectators.
– Modern Race Direction Facilities: addition of a modern structure to accommodate Race Direction offices and support staff to efficiently manage the entire event.
Gregorio Lavilla, WorldSBK Executive Director : “WorldSBK is delighted to introduce the Cremona Circuit to the 2024 MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship. This addition to our calendar marks a significant milestone and we are fully committed to delivering high-quality racing experiences to our fans. This five-year agreement is a clear testament to this unwavering dedication and we look forward to propelling this circuit onto the world stage. »
Alessandro Canevarolo, CEO of the Cremona circuit : “We are very happy, enthusiastic and impatient to take on this new challenge. This will be an opportunity to take a further and important step in our expansion and, with great satisfaction, to bring the MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship back to Lombardy, where it had disappeared for ten long years. After some negotiations, we immediately got to work making the necessary changes to host this major event. In collaboration with management, the objective is to create an event that can highlight the region and represent Italy in all its aspects. The goal has been clear since I started this adventure eight years ago. We have come a long way, facing each moment with great spirit, passion and dedication. It was only in this way that we were able to realize our great dream: to see the World Superbike Championship contested on the asphalt of our Cremona circuit. »
