The MIE Racing Honda Team today announced its new main sponsor, PETRONAS, ahead of the 2023 FIM Superbike World Championship, which begins next weekend at Australia's Phillip Island Circuit.

The agreement with PETRONAS will allow the team to Midori Moriwaki to develop its projects and set ambitious objectives for 2023 and beyond.

While the PETRONAS MIE Racing Honda team will continue to participate in the World Superbike Championship with the riders Hafiz Syahrin et Eric Granado, the 2023 season will also see the formation of a Supersport team for the first time, with the creation of the new PETRONAS MIE MS Racing Honda Team, which will count on young drivers Tarran Mackenzie et Adam Norrodin to chart their professional path.

The four pilots, accompanied by Midori Moriwaki and representatives of PETRONAS, unveiled, during a virtual presentation, the Honda CBR1000RR and Honda CBR600RR with which they will participate this season in the Superbike and Supersport world championships. The stunning new livery, distinguished by the distinctive PETRONAS color, has an undeniable impact on and off the track.

With the arrival of PETRONAS, MIE Racing will also focus on larger scale and long-term projects, as well as the development of an "academic programme" which will see the partners join forces to operate WorldSBK and WorldSSP as platforms and catalysts for a Malaysian talent development program aimed at promoting and developing the talents of promising pilots. This initiative will allow PETRONAS to showcase its know-how and test and develop products with the team, which will help strengthen the energy company's premium products for high-performance production Superbikes.

Midori Moriwaki, (Owner of MIE Racing): “It is a real source of pride and satisfaction for the MIE Racing Honda Team to be able to announce a multi-year partnership with PETRONAS and to hope to expand our presence in the production championship with our Supersport team together. »

Datin Anita Azrina Abdul Aziz, (PETRONAS Group Senior General Manager of Strategic Communications): “PETRONAS is extremely honored to team up with Midori and we are very excited to embark on this new project. We have worked with Midori in the past and look forward to our successful partnership with the PETRONAS MIE Racing Honda Team as the FIM Superbike World Championship will give us the opportunity to advance fluid technology in motorsport and to commercially position the PETRONAS brand. We can't wait to see how the riders perform, both in WorldSBK and WorldSSP. We will also have the opportunity to develop the skills of Malaysian talents in the two-wheeler segment, which we look forward to. »
