The 2025 Superbike World Championship, after a thunderous start at Phillip Island, heads to Portimao for its second round on March 28. But before that, on March 14-15, the Autódromo Internacional do Algarve will host a key test, bringing together most of the Superbike teams and some Supersport riders. After a winter test at the end of January spoiled by unpredictable weather – rain and little useful riding – this meeting is vital to fine-tune the machines before the race.

The 2025 Superbike World Championship will resume on March 28 in Portimão, but before that, the teams will have the opportunity to fine-tune their machines during a crucial test March 14 and 15. This test is particularly important after the disastrous weather conditions that disrupted the tests at the end of January on this same Portuguese circuit. This time, the teams are counting on tackling the asphalt and the time trials.

Factory teams Bimota, BMW, Honda, Ducati et Yamaha have all confirmed their presence, as have several renowned client teams, such as Ducati Go Eleven, Barni Racing, MarcVDS, Honda Petronas MIE et Giansanti Racing Yamaha. Only the factory team Kawasaki Puccetti Racing will be missing.

BMW, in addition to its regular drivers, will deploy its test team, probably composed of Sylvain Guintoli et Markus Reiterberger. On the side of Honda, four pilots are expected, with a notable absence: that of Iker LecuonaThe Spaniard could also miss the race weekend, which is why a replacement will be allowed to ride in practice. Yamaha , for its part, will appeal to Augusto Fernandez, MotoGP test rider, to replace Jonathan Rhea, still injured.

In total, one twenty Superbikes will be on track during these two days of testing, offering a promising spectacle and valuable data for the teams.

In addition to Superbikes, six teams from the Supersport World Championship will also be present, with twelve pilots ready to fight. Yamaha will dominate the Supersport contingent with the teams Ten Kate, Evan Bros et GMT94. They will be joined by Althea Ducati, Honda France et MV Agusta. The team Ducati McManus Brothers Racing, from British Superbike (BSB), will complete this already well-stocked field.

This test represents a golden opportunity for the teams to make up for lost time in January. The weather conditions had prevented any serious work, forcing the teams to pack up earlier than expected. This time, the objective is clear: maximize the laps, validate the settings and prepare as best as possible for the second round of the season. It remains to be seen who will come out on top and who will have to work hard before the second round.
