Superbike, Jerez test: final times and rankings day 1
The best time in the SBK today was set by Garrett gerloff on the Kawasaki Racing Team Ninja ZX-10RR: 1'38.861. The American rider raced for the first time in the green livery and confirmed that he was comfortable with Akashi's bike. He had already impressed in the first test, also in Andalusia. Seventy-two laps were completed on this first day, during which work was carried out to adapt the green bike as best as possible to the rider. Manuel Puccetti had planned that the electronics and the timed lap would be two aspects on which the team would focus.
Second time for Jonathan Rhea, who was in first place at midday and has completed 77 laps today. He has a gap of 568 thousandths to Gerloff. Oriol Pallares has joined him as the new chief engineer and has been working on several aspects of the Yamaha R1, looking for a basic configuration that would allow the six-time world champion to ride as he did in his Kawasaki days. Behind him, his teammate Andrea Locatelli completed 67 laps.
He is followed by Sam Lowes on the Ducati Panigale V4 R of the Marc VDS team and Florian Marino, tester of the Bimota by Kawasaki Racing Team. The Bimota riders, Axel Bassani et Alex Lowes, will ultimately only run on Wednesdays. It is essential to rack up the kilometers in order to continue the development of the KB998.
