The Spanish driver, crowned Saturday in the Supersport 300, closed the 2021 season in the category in the most beautiful way, with a sixth victory on the Portimão circuit.

Each day has enough trouble of its ! On Saturday, during the first event of the Supersport 300 category held on the Portimão circuit, in Portugal, Adrian Huertas (MTM Kawasaki) fulfilled his main objective this weekend, namely the acquisition of the title.

The Spaniard had already come very close to the coronation a week earlier in Jerez, without however making it happen, but was able to seize his chance this time while finishing second in the first race of the weekend, behind the Frenchman Samuel di Sora (Leader Team Flembbo).

It remained for the newly inducted World Champion to conclude the year with panache during the final event of the season. Starting from pole position, the latter did not, this time, leave first place to achieve his sixth success in 2021, the eighth of his career.

Zero points for Buis

Like the day before, his teammate and last competitor for the title Jeffrey Buis was forced to retire, thus recording zero points at the worst of times. For the Dutchman, it was high time for the season to end. This even sees the Briton Tom Booth-Amos (Fusport – RT Motorsports by SKM – Kawasaki) move back in front of him in the championship, following the latter's second place during Race 2.

A result which is only fair for the man who was on the front line all year against Huertas, but who lost everything during the penultimate round, in Catalonia, when a heavy fall forced him to declare package in Jerez.

Third podium in four races for Iglesias

Behind him, Bahattin Sofuoğlu (Biblion Yamaha Motoxracing) once thought he could finish on the last step of the podium, but the Turk was ultimately sanctioned for not having observed a long lap which had been inflicted on him for irresponsible riding during the race . Sofuoğlu therefore gives up his third place to Iñigo Iglesias (SMW Racing), the Iberian who finishes the 2021 financial year with a bang, obtaining three podiums in the last four races contested.

At the world championship, Huertas won the title with 255 points, a large lead over Booth-Amos (189 points). Buis, who won the title in 2020, finished this season in third place with 174 points, while the Frenchman Di Sora, who won his first victory in the category during the weekend (as well as the first success of France in Supersport 300), ends the year in fourth position, with 148 units.
