The 5th of 12 rounds of the Supersport World Championship will take place this weekend at Donington Park, a venue that the FIM Supersport World Championship has not visited for three years.

The reigning Champion, Dominique Aegerter, arrives with 54 points ahead of Lorenzo Baldassarri (Evan Bros. WorldSSP Yamaha Team) but never raced there with his Yamaha YZF R6 from the Ten Kate Racing Yamaha team, although the Swiss already raced there in 2009 in the 125cc World Championship. Will this be enough to put him in danger?

Conversely, Jules cluzel (GMT94 Yamaha), whose interview we will soon publish, knows the British track like the back of his hand, having covered it between 2012 and 2019, obtaining six podiums in seven races. Due to the new regulations, the French driver is no longer really able to fight for victory (he will explain why in his interview) but a rebound is entirely possible, and hoped for, on the track in the center of Great Britain.

Between the two, Lorenzo Baldassarri (Evan Bros. WorldSSP Yamaha Team) is second in the Championship, 37 points ahead Nicholas Bulega (Aruba.it Racing WorldSSP Team). Both will take to Donington Park after battling for victory last time out at Misano and will once again look to oppose the man who has now won seven of eight races in 2022, and finished on the podium in each of them. they.

8th in the general classification, 151 points behind the Swiss leader, Federico Caricasulo (Althea Racing) finished second in 2019 and could also create a surprise…

In the meantime, despite exceptionally high temperatures expected around 33°, and a very technical circuit with two diametrically opposed parts, the spearhead of the Dutch team which went to train at Magny-Cours in preparation for the French round , appears relatively serene.

Dominique Agerter: “We had a long break in World Supersport, although I did a MotoE race at Assen in between. I also spent the last two weekends on track with Yamaha and IXS at Spa-Francorchamps and Magny-Cours. The last time I was at Donington Park was in 2009 in the 125cc class. I like the track and it looks like it will be very hot, which is not like normal British weather, but I prefer warm conditions. The track layout is special with lots of fast and flowing turns, while the last part contains lots of hard braking and hairpin turns. It will be important to work well again this weekend where we will decide on tire choice on Friday, make sure we qualify on the first two rows on Saturday morning, then fight for victory again on Saturday and Sunday afternoon. The goal is to get on the podium again and try to increase the lead in the championship, because the season is still very long. I'm happy to see the team again and I hope there will be a lot of fans there too. »

Kervin Bos – team manager of Ten Kate Racing: “ The whole team can't wait to do it again. It looks like, looking at the schedule, we've had a big break but the team has been busy with all sorts of things over the last few weeks. Dominique had another weekend of MotoE racing and together with Leonardo we went to Most in the Czech Republic for testing, and the team did a lot of work in the workshop to come back with good performances here at Donington Park this weekend. It's a special circuit with beautiful corners like Craner Curves. Many drivers and teams have never been here before, but we are lucky to have a lot of information from the past. We are convinced that we are optimally prepared and the team is keen to perform again this weekend. We will have lots of guests in hospitality and we are really looking forward to racing at Donington Park. »
