2024 World Superbike Champion Toprak Razgatlioglu and his BMW M1000RR are ready to do battle for another season. After a historic title win in their first year together, the duo are once again aiming for the top step of the podium. Recent testing in Jerez has shed light on the developments made to the bike, and BMW’s ambitions are clear: to retain the crown and strengthen its dominance in WorldSBK.
The 2024 season was historic for Toprak Razgatlioglu et BMW, crowned Superbike world champions in their first year together. With 18 wins and an unexpected title, the Turk and the German manufacturer approach 2025 with the ambition of defending this title and also aiming for the constructors' championship.
After the cancellation of a test scheduled in Aragon due to rain, Razgatlioglu was finally able to test the new BMW M1000RR on the Jerez circuit. He was accompanied by his teammate Michael van der Mark and test pilot Sylvain Guintoli. In parallel, the MotoGP test team of KTM was also on site with Dani Pedrosa et Pol Espargaro.
The number 1 proudly adorned Razgatlioglu's motorcycle, temporarily putting aside his famous number 54, as he had done after his world title with Yamaha in 2021.
For 2025, BMW has made numerous improvements to the M1000RR. Presented in October, the new version benefits from increased engine power, a more flexible frame and optimized aerodynamic downforce. The engineers have redesigned the winglets to generate up to 30 kg of downforce at high speeds, while reducing the tendency to wheelie without sacrificing top speed.
BMW has an intense program ahead of the 2025 season
Chris Gonschor, technical director of BMW Motorcycle Motorsport, was satisfied after the tests: " It was a productive, cold but instructive test.. We collected good data and took homework with us. This is a good basis for performance testing in January. »
BMW has already planned its next tests:
– January 28-29 in Jerez: tests with most of the Superbike teams.
– Early February in Portimão: final adjustment before shipping the equipment to Australia for the start of the season.
– February 18-19 at Phillip Island: last pre-season test before the first race.
Before going to Jerez, Razgatlioglu was honored in Palma de Mallorca by the FIM for his second world title, after that of 2021 with Yamaha . The sports director Sven Blusch and the sports director Marc Bongers were also present at this prestigious event.
With a sharp motorcycle and a Toprak Razgatlioglu more motivated than ever, BMW seems well equipped to defend its title in 2025 and continue to write the history of World Superbikes.
