Christophe Ponsson is back.

Christophe Ponsson will return to World Superbike this season. The Frenchman's career has not been easy and he has often been shuffled between disciplines as diverse as they are varied with different bikes and new structures each time. Regarding this aspect, he should now feel at home, literally and figuratively, since here he is in a Gil Motor Sport well-known who has joined forces with the brand that no longer needs to be introduced: Alstare. All that remains is the discipline and the motorbike. And the Misano tests were in this respect like a return to competition.

During the WSBK tests at Misano, one should not expect miracles from Christophe Ponsson. After six months of inactivity, he found a way to do high speed with a Yamaha R1 which he must put in his hand. A beneficial restart, even if it ended in an accident damaging the condition of his machine, as shown in this photo from GPOne... " I made a little mistake. It was a violent takeoff at high speed », Regrets the Frenchman. “ Luckily I'm fine, I only have a few scratches. We made good progress before the crash, but unfortunately we had to stop the test ».

On his situation, he elaborates: “ it's different with me than with most other drivers. I haven't ridden a motorcycle for six months and during that time my reflexes and automatisms have diminished. I needed the first day of the test to start again. And I have to get to know the Yamaha because the R1 is new to me. Everything is different and I had to get used to it ". However, progress has been noted: “ on the second day of the test, lap times and sensations improved more and more ».

Christophe Ponsson: “we get good support from Yamaha”

He adds on speedweek : " we get good support from Yamaha, the bike is good. But I still need more laps to understand the R1 better. Over time we want to get closer and closer and place ourselves in the top 10 ". It will be recalled that Christophe Ponsson rode in MotoGP aboard a Ducati for Avintia, and most recently he rode an Aprilia RSV4 in the Italian championship. He made his last race with BMW in the Spanish Superbike series at the end of September.
