Yamaha was crowned World Champion this weekend at Portimao at the end of a season in the WSS Supersport category that the Iwata firm had nevertheless approached with the worst fears. At the highest level of the brand, cries were heard about new regulations bringing in MV Agusta, Triumph and, above all, Ducati, with motorcycles with displacements greater than its R6, icon of the category, but in version 600. And finally? The ogre of Borgo Panigale with his V2 did not devour anything and the ranking of this campaign as well as its progress gave a furious impression of déjà vu with domination by Yamaha. New regulations or not, it's business as usual, which puts paid to a conspiracy theory heard here and there when the new rules of the game appear.

This Sunday, Yamaha won the 2022 Constructors' World Championship title at Portimao in the Supersport category. The 13th victory of the yearagitated in race 2 indeed allowed the coat of arms bearing the tuning forks to win its sixth consecutive FIM Supersport World Championship. Yamaha won the 2022 World Constructors' Championship with 445 points. The Japanese manufacturer dominated the season with two of its competitors leading the drivers' championship in the face of more diverse adversity than before thanks to the organizers. However, before the start of hostilities, Yamaha wasn't really reassured. Just like you should never scream before you're in pain.

In Portugal, the champion WorldSSP in title and current leader of the championship, Dominique Aegerter (Ten Kate Racing Yamaha), and the rookie from the Grands Prix Lorenzo Baldassarri (Evan Bros. WorldSSP Yamaha Team) have both scored valuable points for the brand, helping it win all but one race so far this year.

Andrea Dosoli, Yamaha Motor Europe, Road Racing Manager commented on this undeniable success: “ it is now the sixth consecutive title for Yamaha in the WorldSSP category and I would like to congratulate all the riders, teams and everyone at Yamaha who have worked very hard to make this possible.” Then he mentions by way of conclusion: “Obviously this year there have been several changes in the World Supersport category, with new manufacturers and new bikes joining the grid, but it is nice to see that the Yamaha R6, in the hands of our talented riders and teams, is very competitive, winning almost every race so far this season ».
