Following our article published on the subject, here is the press release concerning the agreement between Yamaha Motor and Lola Cars, the British firm which “played with the big boys” at the end of the 60s with its T70 before investing unsuccessfully in Formula 1 at the end from the 90s.

It now intends to return to the forefront with three long-term strategic objectives, electric, hydrogen and sustainable fuels, with Yamaha supplying the electric motors for Formula E.

Yamaha Motor signs technical partnership with Lola Cars for the development and supply of powertrains for Formula E.

The goal is to gain cutting-edge electric technology in the first electric vehicle racing series.

Yamaha Motor today announced that it and Lola Cars Ltd. (head office in the United Kingdom, hereinafter “Lola”) have signed a technical partnership agreement for the development and supply of high-performance electric powertrains for an official manufacturer of the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship (hereinafter -after “Formula E”), the world's first racing series for fully electric single-seater vehicles. Through this link with Formula E, Yamaha Motor will work to develop cutting-edge electric technologies with the aim of increasing its expertise and capabilities in this area.

Lola is developing a set of vehicles that can be supplied to racing teams participating in Formula E. Yamaha plans to develop and supply the electric powertrain (power unit), working closely with Lola under a technical partnership aimed at developing and acquiring the state-of-the-art in energy management technology and the world's highest levels of power density and efficiency.

Lola is a renowned British racing car development company that has produced vehicles that have competed in many international motor races. Committed to sustainable motorsport, Lola aims to gain mastery of electric power and plans to develop and deliver technology that meets Formula E homologation standards.

Yamaha has set an environmental goal to achieve carbon neutrality in Scope 3* emissions by 2050. To create a more sustainable world, Yamaha will continue to promote research and development of technologies that contribute to sustainable development.
