In the intermediate category, the 2021 range of Yamaha sports motorcycles is now dominated by the R7, derived from the MT-07, since the Iwata firm no longer has its legendary R6 approved for the road.

This will still be the case in 2022, but if the YZF-R6 has disappeared from dealerships, it is not forgotten by Yamaha which continues to produce the two “track” versions which dominate competitions around the world every Sunday, namely the editions R6 RACE et R6 GYTR.

An unrivaled heritage and extraordinary performance

Yamaha's total commitment to racing is second to none. The company has been committed to competition and fighting for victory since its establishment in 1955. In 2021, Yamaha has strengthened its commitment to MotoGP, the FIM Superbike World Championship and the FIM Supersport World Championship. She has also asserted her number 1 status in numerous national championships.

Throughout its history, Yamaha has dedicated its energy and resources to racing, keeping the passion of riders around the world alive, from the bLU cRU series to the world championships. The new R series Supersports are enriched with this philosophy. Each of these high-performance models has been designed using the most advanced engine and chassis technology, tried and tested first on Yamaha factory motorcycles. This constant transfer of technology from the track to the road is what keeps each R Series model ahead of the competition.

Yamaha wins a 5e consecutive World Supersport Championship title

In addition to running its own teams, Yamaha is actively involved in promoting domestic and international Supersport racing series, and supporting drivers and teams in the Supersport World Championship. This factory support was once again rewarded with Dominique Aegerter's victory in the Supersport World Championship in 2021 aboard the Yamaha R6 of his Ten Kate Yamaha WorldSSP Supported team. This is the fifth consecutive year that Yamaha machines have won this prestigious title, dominating the series since the launch of the new R6 in 2017.

In 2022, Yamaha will continue its commitment to Supersport riders and teams at all levels with the R6 RACE and R6 GYTR, two machines with cutting-edge performance.

R6 RACE: R/World Only

The Yamaha R6 has dominated the World Supersport Championship for many years and remains the ideal bike for all riders who hunger for victories. Benefiting from a remarkable track record, the R6 is the preferred choice of the majority of participants in this category, both nationally and internationally.

Its specifications include a high-performance 599cc engine featuring lightweight forged pistons, titanium valves and a 13,1:1 compression ratio. Benefitting from Yamaha's Variable Intake System (YCC-I) and Electronic Throttle Control (YCC-T) system, as well as a slipper clutch, 6 close-ratio transmission and With a Quick Shift System (QSS) for full-throttle gear changes, the R6 RACE was designed to outperform the competition.

The compact aluminum Deltabox chassis benefits from a magnesium rear loop and aluminum fuel tank, as well as an adjustable KYB R1 type 43mm fork and an adjustable KYB rear shock for handling and optimal precision. Additionally, radial-mount front brake calipers with 320mm rotors provide phenomenal stopping power and significantly help reduce lap times.

The R6 RACE will be available in a stylish Tech Black color combined with a gold fork in 2022 and will be supplied with track-specific elements, without non-essential components usually intended for road driving such as headlights, position lights, the mirrors, the horn, the license plate holder, the passenger seat and the rear footrests. The reduced weight further maximizes performance, making this non-homologated machine ideal for riders who like to ride on the track, as well as for competitors who will be keen to customize it with their own specifications.

R6 GYTR: the ultimate in supersport competition

In order to establish the dominance of the R6 on an international scale, a new R6 GYTR will be available in 2022, exclusively from GYTR PRO SHOPS. Designed for a wide range of riders, the R6 GYTR is also the most obvious choice for the most demanding competitors who want to get the most out of their machine thanks to GYTR parts, whether they relate to the engine or the suspensions.

The R6 GYTR is extensively equipped with high-performance GYTR (Genuine Yamaha Technology Racing) parts, including a programmable SuperStock ECU with an interface that allows the rider to optimize engine performance and a wiring harness that meets racing requirements.

The lightweight Akrapovič titanium exhaust system produces approximately 100 dB or less – plates have been installed to remove the AIS (air intake system), allowing for the elimination of manifolds and cartridges. Competition-grade 520 sprocket, crown and chain deliver unprecedented performance, plus premium stainless steel brake lines improve braking and provide precise feedback. The GYTR ABS Emulator allows the ABS pump to be removed for further weight reduction. The GYTR racing saddle as well as the adjustable rear controls, cut from the mass, allow an ideal position, while the gear change device can be reversed. To start the engine, simply press the “Start/Stop” button and the GYTR fuel cap works without a key.

The R6 GYTR is offered with a lightweight carbon fiber reinforced fairing in a primary white colorway, allowing drivers and teams to apply their racing colors and logos. Other FIM required parts are also included, such as the front brake lever guard and rear sprocket guard.

To ensure this racing machine meets customer expectations and preferences, the GYTR range allows for further enhancements. Further details can be found at www.yamaha-racing.com/gytr/gytr_supersport/.

The R6 GYTR will be available exclusively through Yamaha GYTR PRO SHOPS, an irreplaceable space where racing drivers and circuit driving enthusiasts alike must go to satisfy their passion. GYTR PRO SHOPS are run by people who eat, sleep and breathe competition. These special stores are in direct contact with the Yamaha Road Racing technical department (the European organization responsible for the WorldSBK, WorldSSP and EWC programs). They benefit from the knowledge required to fine-tune a racing machine and customize it for the highest level.

Five GYTR PRO SHOPS are already operational in Europe and the network will expand with the addition of more in 2022.
