The Ángel Nieto team will no longer exist in MotoGP next year, but has decided to set up a Moto2 structure with KTM.

Next year the team Angel Nieto will expand. In addition to racing riders in CEV and Moto3, it will also be present in Moto2, which will allow it to have a structure that will extend from the first world stage, the Junior World Championship, to the category intermediate, Moto2, in order to best prepare its riders to move up to MotoGP.

For this, the team once again calls on KTM, and thus strengthens their links a little further. It is, in fact, thanks to the Austrian manufacturer that it is fighting for the World Junior title and that it won the French Grand Prix in Moto3. The team will therefore field six KTM motorcycles next year: two in Moto2, two in Moto3 and two in World Junior.

The riders who will race in Moto2 next year will be announced soon. As a reminder, this year the team is entering Albert Arenas and Andrea Migno in Moto3 as well as Alex Ruiz and Raúl Fernández in World Junior.

2019 will therefore mark the team's big return to the intermediate category, after its successes in the 2000s. We remember the vice-world champion titles won in 250cc by Fonsi Nieto in 2002, Sebastián Porto in 2004 and Álvaro Bautista in 2008, as well as in Moto2 with Julián Simón in 2010. The team has a total of no less than 31 victories and 115 podiums in the intermediate category and hopes to win more.

Jorge Martínez “Aspar” spoke following the announcement of this news: “We are really happy with this agreement with KTM which will allow us to develop our project with excellent results. After this first year of union, during which we won a Grand Prix, got on the podium and finished very close on several occasions, we are redoubled our efforts and will also ride with them in Moto2. We are very proud that this project starts from the beginning in the Moto3 Junior World Championship, and that it continues in the Moto3 and Moto2 World Championship. Our goal is to make it a winning bet in all categories to once again become one of the reference teams. »
