As in 2020, the FIM, the American Motorcyclist Association and the local organizer regret to announce that the 2022 Bonneville Motorcycle Speed Trials, the FIM Land Speed World Record and the AMA Grand Land Speed Championship are canceled.

The assessment team examined the current conditions of the Bonneville Salt Flat by air and on the ground. Unfortunately, all BMST track locations and alternatives are still flooded from the initial storm and multiple subsequent storm systems. There is no chance that the water will recede and the salt will dry sufficiently in the remaining week to allow preparations and operations on the track.

« We are all disappointed to be forced to cancel,” said the event director/owner, Delvene Reber. " Like you, we spent over a year preparing for this event and investing in improvements. This year we've implemented runner-focused improvements, including new waymarking, course line improvements, and other runner-focused updates. »

« As a runner ", said Bill Woods of Sodium Distortion Racing, “IIt's hard to accept that mother nature canceled our event, but in the end, all this hard work will make next year even better. I am looking forward to a 2023 edition with all the improvements made by the pilots. »

“First of all, on behalf of the FIM, I would like to thank everyone involved for their considerable efforts in making this edition of this important event take place, especially after all the work that has been done to recognize and make improvements along the way ", concluded Franck Vayssie, Director of the FIM Circuit Racing Commission, “ Collectively, we share the disappointment of having to cancel the event, but we fully understand and support the decision. The FIM is already looking forward to returning to salt next year and is committed to providing its absolute support to make this happen. »
