Recall of facts. Maverick Vinales dominated all winter tests. So, when Valentino Rossi declared that he didn't like the 2017 chassis, he wasn't listened to, and we had to wait for Maverick Vinales to encounter problems before we started to take into consideration the statements by the Doctor.
During the test in Barcelona, at least three chassis were tested by the official drivers who agreed to adopt one, from Germany, in addition to their 2017 chassis.
From Brno, Valentino Rossi abandoned the latter while Maverick Vinales kept a copy in his box. During the test in the Czech Republic, Rossi validated the new fairing unlike Maverick Vinales. However, little by little, the latter gradually adopted the same solutions as Valentino Rossi, whether they concern the chassis, the data (see here) or even since today the fairing.
Maverick Vinales : “I have to admit that in Brno I didn't find much difference, but after Rossi used it better and better, I decided to do it too. It offers advantages in acceleration without changing the motorcycle in turns. » The Yamaha rider give more details here.
To which, even if the resulting loss of time should not amuse him, Valentino Rossi replied with his usual humor: “as a test pilot for Maverick, tomorrow he will have to let me stay in front. I think Vinales just doesn't have much experience on this bike. In my career I have proven to be an excellent test rider, and if Yamaha listened to me things would be better. »
We will not forget that this is a statement marked with humor, even if it certainly hides an element of truth...
