There was excitement in the LCR stand on this Saturday afternoon. We saw two annoyed men of a certain age and a Lucio Ceccinello with a diplomatic smile trying to coax them. Meanwhile, the pilot Cal Crutchlow acted as if no one was there. And yet, they had come for him. Two doctors who didn't want to see the Englishman on a motorcycle. Obviously, the person concerned had a radically different opinion…
The story begins after the crash of FP3 due to the fluid leak from Ducati'sAlvaro Bautista. Marc Márquez fell because of this, followed by Crutchlow and a red flag was brought out to clean the asphalt. End of the story ? Nope. The pilots went to the medical center and the doctors suspected a back injury, specifically to a vertebra, for the LCR pilot.
Enough to put an end to the meeting, provided that further examinations are carried out in a hospital. Except that Crutchlow had other ambitions. Like a FP4 and a Q.2. The two doctors, or the luminaries Xavier Mir et Angel Charter went to the box to make people listen to reason Crutchlow…Who only has a few!
« I respect Doctor Charte and all the doctors at the clinic, but this decision is mine and that's why they are so angry. I'm a racing driver, and I want to race. Now I'm going to go to the hospital to see if there's anything wrong with a vertebra ».
Angel Charter is the medical director of MotoGP. A pilot can therefore ignore his recommendations. And for the race? The first tendency is that the hospital examinations did not reveal anything serious. It is now up to the doctor to declare him fit or not for the future. The same one who was turned away this Saturday… Crutchlow qualified fifth despite all these adventures…
