While the greatest F1 strategists battled for victory at Silverstone, an eight-year-old enthusiast became, for one weekend, the most unexpected of team principals.

F1: George Norris, or the paddock as a playground

The young boy won the very first edition of the competition Hot Wheels Tiniest Team Principal, organizationSponsored by Mattel to allow a passionate child to experience the daily life of an F1 team principal. His application convinced a prestigious jury including the 2009 world champion. Jenson Button, from the F1 president Stefano domenicaliofficials from Mattel and designers Hot Wheels.

A candidacy that made the difference

To land this extraordinary role, George submitted a video showcasing his passion for F1, his imagination, and his vision of a team principal. The young winner admits he absolutely did not expect to be chosen.

"I didn't think I'd win because the level was very high. I spent several days preparing my video, so when I heard the news, I couldn't stop smiling."

He added that he had been impressed by the other candidates.

"Many children had made some truly incredible videos."

The paddock as a playground

His prize money granted him privileged access to the British Grand Prix. Accompanied by his family, George was able to discover the inner workings of F1, visit the paddock, and chat with several drivers and team principals. Among all these encounters, two personalities particularly stood out for him.

"Andrea Stella and Lando Norris were my favorites. I love McLaren. My middle name is Norris, so meeting Lando was really great."

A passion born very early

His father, Ryan NorrisHe explains that this passion dates back to early childhood. According to him, George plays with cars. Hot Wheels He has been following every F1 Grand Prix since the age of three. The young Briton himself perfectly sums up his enthusiasm.

"I like Hot Wheels because you can build really fast tracks and race all the cars. And Formula 1 is simply exciting."

The Grand Prix will remain his fondest memory

Despite the prestigious encounters, George insists that nothing has equaled the sensations felt watching the race.

"The best part of the weekend was the race. It was the first time I'd ever been to a Grand Prix in person and it was incredible."

An adventure that has only just begun

The experience doesn't end at Silverstone. Later this year, George will visit the headquarters of Hot Wheels, in California, where he will participate in the design of his own miniature Formula 1 car in the brand's colors. An exceptional reward for someone who, over the course of a weekend, proved that a passion for Formula 1 knows no age.
