Barely alighting from his official Honda RC 213 V after winning his eighth consecutive victory on the Sachsenring circuit, Marc Márquez, the new leader of the championship, spoke on the site's microphone MotoGP.com.
Congratulations, it's the best way to start the summer break. You win the race and now lead the championship. Was it difficult to contain Jonas Folger and were you surprised to see him behind you?
Marc Márquez : “yes, it was a very fast race. The pace was incredible. I drove really well, even at the beginning, then suddenly I saw that Jonas was overtaking me. I said to myself “OK, maybe he is strong with new tires but he will drop his pace”. But it didn't happen like that. I attacked, attacked, attacked, in 1'21 while we were in the race. But he was just following me. “OK, for sure he will try in the last lap”. But in the last five laps, I increased my pace a little and improved my times by 2 tenths. This was then enough to create a small gap.
I am very happy. Very happy to go on summer vacation leading the championship. It's something I couldn't have believed because only two races ago I was 37 points behind. You know, we have always had confidence in our work and we are having a very good championship. »
