While Maverick Vinales had completely dominated the start of the season, difficulties appeared for Yamaha on the Spanish circuits of Jerez and Barcelona. Conversely, Ducati was in a good period with two consecutive victories for Andrea Dovizioso.

The gap between the Spaniard and the Italian has narrowed considerably and Vinales' lead over Dovi is now just seven points. The overall results for the Desmosedici are currently good, with third place for Danilo Petrucci at the Italian Grand Prix and fourth for Jorge Lorenzo at the Barcelona Grand Prix.

For Ducati Competition Director Gigi Dall'Igna, Andrea Dovizioso can very well be crowned at the end of the year. “ Dovizioso has already won two races. He is a champion who has great qualities, some out of the ordinary if we compare him to other drivers.

“Let’s take the example of the last two Grands Prix: he knew how to win them like a true accountant. He managed to manage his two races to perfection, as if following an instruction manual. For me, he has all the characteristics of a driver capable of fighting for the title. But winning it depends on a lot of things.

Dall'Igna also believes in Jorge Lorenzo: “Of course it's always a problem when one driver is stronger than another, but 'Giorgio' is a champion. He will try to react, and we with him to help him obtain the same results as Andrea. It's all part of the game. So I'm very optimistic, Lorenzo understands more and more how to use the bike and we understand what he needs to get better results.

“I prefer to keep my feet on the ground and not change my way of thinking. Our next goal is the Dutch GP. »
