Passing through Madrid before testing a Subaru WRX STI (brand of which he is ambassador) on the Jarama circuit, Alex Rins, who is only one point behind Johann Zarco in the Moto2 World Championship standings, spoke to our colleagues at AS before flying off for the month-long tour of Asia.

Here are some extracts from the words of the future Suzuki driver…

The second part of this season is something strange. Injury, illness… and yet you make up points on Zarco!

“I finished four races ahead of Zarco, recovering points, but it seems like everything is happening to me this year. I started last on the grid several times, I had a drive through… Fortunately, it seems to be going well for me. »

In the Asian tour, is there a circuit that you don't like?

“Out of the four races, I don't see a circuit that is a punishment for me. It's four fun races, I like them, and my goal is to try to stay ahead of Zarco. I'm not going there to win, that doesn't obsess me, but obviously, I will do it if it's possible. It's true that in Japan I'm not used to setting very good times, but apart from controlling Zarco, there are no particular concerns. Zarco is not very consistent, but he is a very good driver and he will win races by the end of the year; we must be vigilant to see what he is doing. »

Do you think the World Championship will be decided before Valencia?

“As we see so far, I don’t think so. But for my health, my family and my mechanics, I hope he decides before then. »

In the last races, we see you better on race day than on Fridays and Saturdays, unlike Zarco.

“Yes, on Sundays I motivate myself. In addition, on Fridays and Saturdays we try to ride with worn tires, but yes it is true that on Sunday, the day of the race, I come back up. »
