The Moto2 World Championship is more open than ever heading into the fifth round of the season in France, at the Bugatti circuit in Le Mans. Championship leader Manuel Gonzalez holds only a 9,5-point advantage over his teammate Senna Agius, while Ivan Guevara trails the runner-up by five points. At Le Mans, however, the Aspar riders, David Alonso and Daniel Holgado, will also be ones to watch. In good form at recent races, Barry Baltus of Fantic will also be one to keep an eye on.

In Q1, Daniel Munoz set the fastest time with a 1:34.203, qualifying his Italtrans Kalex directly for Q2. Behind him, David Alonso, who had a disappointing Friday afternoon session, also made it through. The number 80, the 2024 Moto3 World Champion, posted a time 139 thousandths of a second off the pace. Tony Arbolino and Joe Roberts also salvaged some pride, joining the 14 riders already qualified for Q2.
In Q2, the weekend's clear favorite quickly took the lead. After setting the fastest time on Friday afternoon and Saturday morning, Izan Guevara snatched pole position for the French Moto2 Grand Prix with a time of 1:33.910. He thus improved the weekend's best time by a few hundredths of a second.
Behind him, Daniel Holgado and Filip Salac benefited from Barry Baltus's crash at the very end of Q2 to secure a front-row start, effectively excluding the Belgian (4th). Championship leader Manuel Gonzalez completed the top five.
