Exclusive interview with Enea Bastianini, who made her Moto2 debut with the Italtrans Racing team. Aim for podium and top 10 in 2019.

After five seasons in Moto3 at high levels, Enea Bastianini arrived in the intermediate category like a cyclone. During the first race in Qatar, he was in the top 10 riding the Kalex of the Italtrans Racing team, where he replaced “veteran” Mattia Pasini. The 'Beast' is ready to tear up Moto2 and continue his rise to MotoGP, keeping in mind that 2019 will only be his first season. The 21-year-old Romagnol has hunger and class to spare, qualities on which the Bergamo team has decided to focus for its tenth consecutive season in the World Championship.

What are your first impressions after the category change and how was the approach with the new electronics?

“The first impressions are positive, it's a more comfortable bike, I have to push myself a little less. On the other hand, there is more weight and you have to get used to this element. We come from Moto3 , here had more electronics than Moto2, so we had already started working on some things. So, in my opinion, those who fall into this category have a little advantage. »

How is your relationship with Andrea Locatelli?

“In 2015, we were already teammates, we know each other well. We definitely look at everyone's data and try to improve. »

In January you had the opportunity to train with Dovizioso and Petrucci. Were you able to steal any secrets and will there be other opportunities?

“It's hard to steal any secrets, with a motocross machine you need a different riding style. Although I have a lot to learn, it's a discipline that I started recently and the fact that people like them have been practicing it since they were little helps a lot. Even just one little thing makes a difference. We are quite busy, but I think there will be other opportunities. »

Can the presence of a parent in the box affect a driver's work?

“My dad will follow me to a few races this year, but last year he didn’t. For me it's not a boring thing, it always stays in its place. Obviously, if a parent interferes with your work, it becomes a problem. »

When did the meeting with Carlo Pernat take place?

“I met Carletto as soon as I arrived in the World Championship, he is a person who has a lot of experience and who can give me a lot of advice, as he does. He's a very important character, a good person, and I'm very satisfied with him. »

What are you missing to constantly fight with the former?

“Change your riding style, move more with the shoulders and less with the buttocks than in Moto3. You must of course adapt to the motorcycle and adjust it to yourself. It will take a few races before you can be competitive. »

At the end of the season, you will satisfied if...?

“If I can make the top 10 and get on the podium in my first year. »
