Driver Marc VDS spoke with Sports world on the coming season which promises to be full of uncertainties and surprises with the upheavals taking place in the Moto2 category.

Alex Marquez did not have the 2018 season he hoped for. Despite six podiums, he was never able to win and made many mistakes which prevented him from challenging for the title. He finished fourth in the championship, but very far from the leading duo composed of Francesco Bagnaia and Miguel Oliveira. He now wants to put this year behind him to concentrate on the new season which is looming on the horizon and which promises to be full of twists and turns with the arrival of the Triumph engine in Moto2. This will redistribute the cards and allow you to start off on the right foot, ideal for the Spanish driver.

At the end of first pre-season test, he is quite optimistic: “The Jerez test was very important. The bikes were new, the technology and electronics were new, and we made significant changes. The goal was to understand each other. We haven't had much luck with the weather, but the times will improve in the next test and this first year with the Triumph engine is going to be a lot of fun. The category was starting to stagnate a bit and so that's a good thing. I thought she would change more, the change is not that drastic. However, the engine is very different, with more torque than the Honda whose power came high in the revs. We must therefore change our mentality. Between now and Qatar we will have to drive as much as possible during the few tests organized because these will be key in the preparation. Whoever arrives best prepared will make the difference. »

Joan Mir left for MotoGP, Márquez will have Xavi Virgo as teammate next year, and given his results over the last two years, he promises to be a formidable opponent: “We have new bikes with a lot of information to gather but it is clear that he is a very fast rider. He's going to complicate things for us. We will have to come together to raise the level of the team and arrive as prepared as possible. At the first race in Qatar, the team that wins will be the one that has prepared the best and has shared the most information between its drivers. »

Finally, the Moto2 test was carried out alternating with that of the MotoE and number 73 was therefore able to see the new electric machines rolling: “I was able to see them on track during the first test in Jerez, and it’s impressive. You're in the box and you don't know if anyone is turning because you can't hear anything. »
