Izan Guevara took pole position for the Spanish GP in the Moto3 category. He is ahead of his teammate at Aspar, Sergio Garcia, as well as Jaume Masiá. Dennis Foggia will start tomorrow from the second row of the grid, in fourth position.

Following a final free practice session this morning, Moto3 started things in earnest shortly after midday with the first qualifying session for the Spanish GP. On a Jerez circuit still flooded with sunshine, the drivers who failed to qualify directly for Q2 had to go through the first 15 minutes of driving to try to be drafted.

And suffice to say that the places were expensive, with no less than 14 competitors in the hot seat for four tickets to be awarded for the second part of the qualifications. In this little game, the lucky ones were Kaito Toba, Scott Ogden, Matteo Bertelle and Xavier Artigas. The latter thus had the opportunity to join their 14 pre-qualified friends to take part in the hunt for pole position only a few minutes later, on a track now displaying optimal grip conditions with 41°C on the ground ( for 22°C in air).

In these conditions, the times quickly approached the 1'45 zone, like Sergio Garcia who missed the mark by only four thousandths with a time at the start of Q2 of 1'46.004. This first time reference was lowered in the last five minutes by Izan Guevara, the man who had been the fastest at the end of the first day.

The latter took all the risks to get to the front, coming close to the highside in his flying lap to finally be the first driver to pass the 1'45 window this weekend. A time sufficient to allow him to take pole position, despite a final charge from Dennis Foggia and Xavier Artigas, unfortunately for them without effect.

Guevara on pole, he will be accompanied on the first row of the grid by Sergio Garcia (who showed himself annoyed during his last lap launched by the behavior of the other drivers around him) and Jaume Masiá, while we find on the second row Dennis Foggia, Deniz Öncü and Xavier Artigas. This promises a tough battle on the track tomorrow for victory.
