Despite the general deconfinement, the MotoGP paddock still remains closed to journalists, and this is completely normal. But, as usual, that obviously doesn't stop him from buzzing with rumors, some of which come back to our ears...
We hide most of them, either because of a confidentiality clause, or for lack of elements allowing us to think that they are something other than rumors, but it also happens that several diffuse elements overlap and, at that moment Here we share it with you.
Today we can write that, unfortunately, it is more than likely that the Estrella Galicia 0,0 team will no longer field Moto3 next year. After what we announced to you in our previous chapter dedicated to the VR46, it would therefore be the second Moto3 team to go out of business.
The Grand Prix entry category would be reduced to 28 machines in 2021.
To clarify the situation, the team Estrella Galicia 0,0 initially resulted from an agreement between the vocational training school Monlau Competition and the Spanish brewer Hijos de Rivera who sells beer Estrella Galicia. Monlau Competition, created by Emilio Alzamora et Pio Ventura (one of the two founders of the Monlau group) in 1997, is therefore the Barcelona team which lines up the motorcycles, Galicia Star 0,0 (a non-alcoholic beer) a financial partner.
The team immediately showed itself to be of very good quality, under the direction of Emilio Alzamora since 2005, and was able to align in different categories names as prestigious as Marc Márquez, Álex Márquez, Álex Rins, Miguel Oliveira or Fabio Quartararo. In short, a Spanish success story (especially since Repsol was also part of the adventure) which also managed to attract Marc Van Der Straten as a financial partner in 2016.
Unfortunately, it seems that the current health crisis has reduced the profits of the Iberian brewer from La Coruña which also owns special agreements with certain MotoGP riders (Marc and Álex Márquez, Joan Mir, Álex Rins). It is also rumored that Emilio Alzamora would have realized its assets. It is also rumored that Estrella Galicia would be interested in following Alex Marquez at LCR in 2021. Anyway, the Moto3 team could (should) no longer appear on the list of 2021 teams.
She lines up today Sergio Garcia Dols et Ryusei Yamanaka. According to our information, the first, who currently occupies 15th place in the championship, would be leaving for the Aspar team in order to replace Albert Arenas who will move to Moto2 in the same team.
For the second, 24th in the championship, the situation is less clear, also because the Spanish structure would have tried for a time to keep a motorcycle. Currently, the Japanese driver is in full negotiations with several teams.
There are currently 31 Moto3s on the grid. One place will become available with the departure of the two VR46s, the other going to the Reale Avintia Racing team. With this now expected absence of the Estrella Galicia 0,0, there are 28 Moto3s that would make up the 2021 grid. Let's hope that this reduction stops there...
These are obviously not the only elements on which this rumor is based, but If you want to check out our previous episodes of “Radio Paddock”, it’s here, and even if the truth of one day is not necessarily that of the next, we cannot say that we have been contradicted by the news… Or by the interested parties themselves who read us.
