The reigning MotoE World Champion concluded the Jerez test in first place, and will now return to the real world on his return to Italy.

While MotoGP races are postponed one after the other due to the coronavirus, the first MotoE test of the year did take place in Jerez, without however the SIC58 team of Paolo Simoncelli, the latter having decided not to make his 100% Italian team and the others take any risks. However, other Italians were in the paddock in Spain, starting with the reigning World Champion, Matteo Ferrari, who finished at the top of the timesheet and is now preparing for a complicated return journey.

Indeed, Spain has suspended its flights to Italy and it is a bit of an obstacle course that awaits the Transalpines, as he confided to GPOne: “We are going to embark for Monaco and from there we will drive home. Unfortunately there is no other solution given the cancellation of flights. »

“The main problem remains our return to Italy, but not only that”, he continued. “Our telemetry manager had to go home early and the work suffered. And then we obviously [thought] all the time about our return. Let's say that if we could have avoided [the test] it would have been better but once on track we did our job. Fortunately, in Jerez everything seemed calm and that helped us. Now all we have to do is struggle a little to get back. »

Originally from Emilia-Romagna, Ferrari lives in one of the areas most affected by the coronavirus and is therefore preparing to find himself quarantined like the rest of the country: “The situation is continually changing. […] At home I have some equipment to train with, even if it obviously won't be the same. As for the rest, we have to adapt to the rules like everyone else. For the moment I am enjoying this test during which I had fun. »

It must be said that the Italian did not come to Jerez for nothing, since he quickly returned to the top positions on the timesheet before finishing first in the test in combined times. “I'm happy, both with the final result and the fact that I was fast on every lap, regardless of the things tested”, did he declare. “I have to, in any case, stay with my feet on the ground because new tires will arrive and that could redistribute the cards. With Eric [Granado] we have a little margin over the others currently, but it's always relative because not everyone attacks hard during tests, I didn't do it myself. These results must therefore be taken with a pinch of salt. »
