Australia MotoGP

As we know, the Australian Grand Prix MotoGP is sometimes subject to difficult weather conditions. Currently, the paddock is in full discussion, as the wind could once again disrupt the events scheduled for this weekend. Alex Rins has spoken publicly about the situation, which could lead to a postponement of the Grand Prix if the conditions worsen. It would not be the first time that the spectators at Phillip Island have suffered such a fate, and, last time, it worked out rather well for us French.

Indeed, remember: in 2023, the Australian Grand Prix was subject to winds of rare violence. A radical decision was made: to move the GP to Saturday, and the Sprint to Sunday. During the main race, held on Saturday, therefore, Johann Zarco triumphed over his rivals, thus winning his first MotoGP victory for Ducati Pramac.. After the warm-up, held on Sunday morning, The Sprint had simply been cancelled. Similarly, in 2022, qualifying was held on Sunday morning, shortly before the GP. This is therefore commonplace in these latitudes.

Two years later, the discussion is back on the table. Winds of 45 to 55 km/h are expected at the Phillip Island circuit, which is naturally buffeted by the Aeolus wind. This is nothing compared to the 80 km/h of 2023, but the drivers are wondering whether it might not be more sensible to repeat the experiment of the time, namely, moving the Grand Prix to Saturday. « What is the limit? I don't know, it depends a lot on the wind direction, etc.. Of course, Friday, We will talk to the Safety Commission. Two years ago we already competed in the main race. – I wasn't there due to injury – on Saturday, and the Sunday one was canceled. We'll see. said Alex Rins about this.

Namely, teams are allowed to remove their wings for the Australian round. Trackhouse Racing even conducted an experiment last year, running Raul Fernandez "naked" from an aerodynamic point of view. But according to Rins, it wouldn't change anything. "I've already asked our guys, but if we take the fins off, it will be worse. More negative points than positive points." he concluded.

Do you think we'll see a somewhat strange Grand Prix? Tell us in the comments!
